The Sundering, and the Kettle That Remembers

Three hundred years ago, the Great Kettle โ€” the cosmic hearth that simmered the First Broth of the Cosmos โ€” went cold. The stars went quiet. The broth went bland. Historians call it the Sundering. Gourmands call it the day the galaxy forgot what dinner was supposed to taste like.

Before the Sundering, the Vessari Gourmand Nomads kept the Kettle burning. It was said to flame not on wood or plasma, but on three jewels: the Hearthstone Ruby, the Abyssal Sapphire, and the Gale Emerald โ€” one hidden on each of three worlds, each guarded by a champion of formidable manners.

When the jewels were scattered and sealed in their vaults, the Kettle cooled, and the age of flavor ended. Flavor did not die all at once. It faded โ€” like a recipe retold too many times by people who never tasted the original.

"Grandmother said the Kettle burned on three jewels... She drew them on a napkin. We still have the napkin." โ€” Nimbus Quill

This is where you come in. One rustbucket ship. A family of worms with strong opinions. And a napkin.

Dossier ยท The Protagonist

Nimbus Quill, Last of the Vessari

Nimbus Quill

Inheritor of her grandmother's recipes, one barely-spaceworthy ship, and a wormery full of creatures who believe โ€” correctly โ€” that they are the smartest ones aboard. Nimbus cooks first and asks questions during. Her signature dish, the First Broth of the Cosmos, is less a recipe than an inheritance: "The Kettle remembers it."

She posts her dishes on Forklore, the galaxy's food-social network, because fame is fuel and likes are money. Twelve followers became four hundred. Four hundred became a movement. Baron Volt noticed. That was either the best or worst thing that ever happened to her.

World Dossiers ยท Field Survey

Three Worlds, Three Jewels

Verdanth

Verdanth

A mossy super-garden where every plant is faintly musical

Forests hum in major keys. Ingredient groves grow Starbloom Nectar, Glowsroom, and Cloudfruit. Home of Madame Vex, Duchess of Rust & Roses, who judges your table manners before your courage. Jewel: the Hearthstone Ruby. Travel advisory: wear better boots than you think you need.

Cinder Reach

Cinder Reach

Volcanic archipelagos โ€” the food is spicy because everything is literally on fire

Always too hot for soup. Emberpepper grows wild, Lavasalt is harvested from cooling flows, and Cinderfin swim happily in water that would poach them from below if they stood still. Home of Chef Bramble, the Exiled Flavor-Pirate. Jewel: the Gale Emerald.

Pelagia

Pelagia

One world-ocean, lit from below by cities of the Deep Watch

Abysskelp forests, Pearlroot beds, and Moonroe herds on the shelf lands. The Deep Watch keeps its lamps on for sailors who'll never need them again. Home of Admiral Nell, Last Commander of Pelagia's Deep Watch. Jewel: the Abyssal Sapphire, which lies beneath HER trench, thank you very much.

Character Dossiers ยท Tea, Not War

Every Rival Can Be Beaten at a Tea Party

The Vessari way is not conquest. Each world's champion cannot be defeated by force โ€” only delighted. Win the duel of etiquette and they don't just yield: they join you, bringing a signature skill into every battle thereafter.

Madame Vex

Madame Vex

Duchess of Rust & Roses ยท Verdanth

"You dare approach my garden in travel boots? Very well โ€” we settle this the civilized way. TEA."

Delight her to 70 and she joins with Rose Parry: blocks the next enemy hit and counters for 4. She travels with you "if only to supervise." She has been supervising ever since.

Chef Bramble

Chef Bramble

The Exiled Flavor-Pirate ยท Cinder Reach

"They say my lava-roux is too dangerous for polite society. Prove your palate or eat your words!"

Beat him and he declares you "diabolical" for seasoning during his monologue โ€” the highest compliment he knows. Ally skill: Flavor Bomb, 8 damage plus a โˆ’2 attack debuff.

Admiral Nell

Admiral Nell

Last Commander of the Deep Watch ยท Pelagia

"The Sapphire lies beneath MY trench, gourmand. Duel me โ€” cups, not cannons. Best etiquette wins."

Pour at perfect temperature and perfect timing and the entire Deep Watch follows you. Ally skill: Deep Cover โ€” heal 8 and gain 3 block when things go wrong. Things go wrong.

Final Boss ยท Storm-Food Critic

Baron Volt, the Galaxy's Grumpiest Critic

Baron Volt

He wears the Gale Emerald as a belt buckle. He insists it "matched nothing." When Nimbus collects all three jewels, the Baron descends personally โ€” not to destroy her, but to review her. Permanently. His three-phase assault escalates through The Storm Course:

"A RESERVATION? For ME? You found all three jewels โ€” now let us see if your TASTE is real!"
โ€” opening line, Table of Baron Volt

At two-thirds health: "Impressive palate, tiny chef. But can you weather THE STORM COURSE?" At one quarter: he stops holding back his hospitality entirely. Bring allies. Bring broth. Wear pants.

The Wormery: Your Smartest Crew Members

Nimbus's worms are not bait. They are colleagues. Bred in the Wormery Wings, each carries a trait that shapes the whole voyage:

Worm TraitEffectWho Needs It
โœจ Shimmerback+15% Forklore likesEveryone. Always. Non-negotiable.
๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Gourmand Grub+1 luxury ingredient per dayChefs chasing the First Broth

Vermicelli Caviar โ€” wormgold, value 20 โ€” is the only luxury ingredient that grows nowhere. It is produced exclusively by worms who know exactly how valuable they are. Rarity tiers run Common โ†’ Rare โ†’ beyond; breed carefully and speak respectfully.

"The plan, then: by day, cook gourmet dishes and post them on Forklore for money. By โšกenergy, expedition to each world." โ€” The Oracle Worm, adjusting a tiny monocle
Strategy ยท Nintendo Power Style

Tips & Tricks โ€” Counsel of the Codex

Energy is the real currency. Money comes back, HP regenerates, but each day gives limited โšก. Before spending energy, ask: does this make money (cook/post), strength (wormery/shelter), or progress (expedition)? Never spend a third energy on something a second could do.
Post to Forklore every single day. Even a modest dish posted daily outpaces occasional masterpieces โ€” follower growth compounds, and followers are your long-term income. The Studio upgrade boosts post earnings +30%/level. Buy it earlier than feels reasonable.
Breed a Shimmerback first. +15% likes applies to EVERYTHING you post, forever. It's the highest compounding return in the game. Oracle Worm second if you struggle with night navigation.
Fight everything on expedition routes. Enemies drop ingredients AND pay you for the privilege. A Grubble Pack is 12โ€“20 coins plus a free Glowsroom walking toward you. Expeditions should ideally pay for themselves.
Save the Observatory upgrade for before Pelagia. Night nodes and jewel clues revealed make the trench far less lethal. Seeing extra nodes at night turns blind wandering into planned routes.
Tea parties scale โ€” come prepared. Madame Vex (wit 5) is gentle. Admiral Nell (wit 7) will end you if you arrive with a low-tier dish. Cook your best available recipe BEFORE accepting a tea invitation, not after losing to it.
Allies stack. Each befriended rival fights beside you with their signature skill. Rose Parry's counter, Flavor Bomb's debuff, and Deep Cover's heal cover offense, offense-denial, and recovery. Get all three before the final duel โ€” Volt's Storm Course assumes you won't.
For Baron Volt: stock First Broth ingredients (Moonroe, Pearlroot, Vermicelli Caviar) BEFORE the third vault. Once he arrives, shopping trips are over. A few Philosopher Worm dawns (+2 max HP each) turn his burst phases into math you survive.
Full Walkthrough ยท Spoiler-Light Then Spoiler-Heavy

From Cold Kettle to Cosmic Broth

Act I โ€” Foundation (Days 1โ€“5)

1
Learn the loop. Cook your easiest recipes, post everything to Forklore, spend leftover energy gathering. Goal: steady coin flow and first follower milestones.
2
Invest in the Wormery early. Breed toward a Shimmerback. Every day without one is compound interest lost.
3
First expedition: Verdanth. Gentle enemies (Grubbles, Sporelings), three ingredient types, and Madame Vex waiting at tea. Fight along the route โ€” loot funds the next upgrade.

Act II โ€” The Champions (Days 6โ€“15)

4
Win Vex's tea party. Bring your best dessert-tier dish. Rose Parry joins your battles โ€” immediately noticeable survivability.
5
Cinder Reach. Harder enemies, hotter everything. Chef Bramble's duel rewards bold cooking โ€” Flavor Bomb makes short work of Magmaws. Claim the Gale Emerald's vault location.
6
Pelagia last. Tidehulks hit hard. Bring the Observatory online first, breed Oracle Worm if nights keep surprising you, then face Admiral Nell with dignity and a top-shelf risotto. Deep Cover is the best insurance policy in the game.

Act III โ€” The Storm Course

7
Open all three vaults. Hearthstone Ruby, Gale Emerald, Abyssal Sapphire. The moment the third jewel leaves its vault, the sky changes.
8
Prepare the final table. All three allies, Philosopher Worm HP banked, First Broth ingredients stocked. This is not optional prep โ€” Volt's phase three stops holding back his hospitality.
9
Rekindle the Kettle. Cook the First Broth of the Cosmos. Serve. Whatever happens next, the galaxy eats well tonight.
"Wear pants." โ€” The Oracle Worm, closing the briefing
